BE POEM W9

This week for reading our goal was: Making connections and synthesising. For our learning, we learnt about being in a community and why it is important to be in one. We read articles and watched videos and I found that being in a community can help you be interactive with others and they might even have the same interests with you. We had to answer three questions that you might be able to answer: Is it important to be part of a community?, How can communities help us? and What different communities are you part of? Then for our create task we were to choose out of three DLO's to make: We could create an event for your community, A word brick or a Be Poem. I chose to do a Be Poem. Here it is :)

Thanks for reading my blog! Have an awesome day :-)
Question: What community are you a part of?

Wholy Moly Decimals!

This week for maths we were working on adding decimals to get whole numbers, Our goal was: Solve problems with fractions, decimals and ratios using a broad range of strategies. For our create task we had to create five word problems with different lengths of decimal points. I did all the questions in my book but here they are:

1. Beth ran 8.5km on Monday and 1.5km on Tuesday, How many kilometres in those two days?
8.5+1.5= 10 kilometres

2. Eilish bought skittles for $5.01 and a drink for $1.99, How much did Eilish spend?
5.01+1.99= $7

3. Caoimhe weighs the two tigers from the zoo, the first one weighs 16.32kg and the other one weighs 10.68kg, How much did they weigh altogether?
16.32+10.68=27kg

4. Lily ordered 36.614kg of fries and 17.386kg of meat patties, How much did the food weigh altogether?
36.614+17.386=54kg

5. Alice drove 47.273km to Cosair bay and then 24.727km to Taylors mistake. How many kilometres did Alice drive?
47.273+24.727=72 kilometres.

Reading Instructions + Skimming and Scanning :)

Hi guys, this week reading and writing were connected and we were learning to read the details and when is is okay to skim and scam. What is skimming and scanning you may ask? Skimming and scanning are reading techniques that use rapid eye movements and key words to move quickly through the text. It is okay to use skimming when you maybe need to know what book to buy and you skim the blurb or the pages? or when you scan you might need to find facts for an essay? For our create task we were to follow one of the set of instructions they had on the hub site. There were some really cool ones to choose from but I did the baking one, as I love baking, I didn't know what we were baking because the instructions said to find out after what were making. It ended up being scones and they were delicious :P Here is the DLO I made with a screenshot of the Scones :)

Here is a photo of the scones I had for lunch with some jam :)

Thanks for reading my blog! Have an awesome day :)
Question: Have you ever accidentally skimmed the instructions when making food? How was the food afterwards? :O

Writing Instructions + Skimming and Scanning :)

Hi guys, this week reading and writing were connected and we were learning about skimming and scanning. We learned when it is okay and not okay to skim and scan because sometimes if you skim the text when trying to build something you might end up with a bit of a funny build :/  For our create task we were to create a set of instructions for someone to follow. After using my noggin I decided to make instructions for how to make a mini chain of happiness (out of paper) It was really fun and satisfying making the chain I suggest you give it a go :) here is my DLO I created.

Thanks for reading my blog! Have an awesome day :)
Question: Have you ever made a paper chain before?

Math Trasformations W7

Hi guys, this week for maths we were focusing on: Reflection, Rotation, Translation and Enlargement. Our goal was: Identify and use the features of a figure that do not change, as it is reflected, rotated, translated or enlarged. In our workshop we were looking at logos that had been reflected, rotated, translated or enlarged, So for our create task we were to make our own logo and use 2 types of the transformations. Here is my logo (I used my Initials SD)

Thanks for reading my blog! Have an awesome day :)
Question: Do you know a logo that is transformed?

Statistical Investigations W6

Hi guys this week for maths we were learning about statistical investigations! Our Hero goal is: Complete a statistical investigation by collecting, displaying and discussing data. Back in term 1 we did some of these except the teachers gave us the data and we just had to display it, but this time we actually had to find the data ourselves which was a bit tricky. I ended up doing: The population of New Zealand from 2010-2021. After we made the graph we had to create an infographic with two statements based on our data. Here is a photo of the data and the infographic!

Question: Do you know the exact number of NZ's population right now?

Star Poem W6

Hi guys this week for writing we are taking a break from writing our speeches and doing poems instead. In our first workshop we were getting ideas on what we would write our poems about and also the theme. my first option was to do a rhyming poem on the colour yellow but mid way through writing the poem I didn't really know if it was going to make sense so I google some ideas and now my new poem is about stars. (it's also a rhyming one btw) Here is a photo of my poem, I added the poem down below if it's too hard to read through the picture!

poem: Star light, star bright, star shining in the night, the twinkling stars above us all, very bright so tiny and small, the ones we wish upon every night, are very far in sight, but one day when the time will come, our wishes will become undone.

Thanks for reading my blog! Have an awesome day.
Question: What type of poem is your favorite?

Top 10 hobbies for happiness

Hey guys this week for reading we were looking at hobbies, What is a hobby you may ask? It's an activity you enjoy doing in your own time. Our Hero goal was: Use knowledge from text to combine with new ideas (own and others) to come up with new thinking. For our create task we got to choose what to create, I did a top 10 hobbies for happiness poster I also made a video on how to bake a cake! Maybe you can start new hobbies by getting ideas from my poster?
