This Is How We Can we Save The Environment?

Firstly just want to say that plastic is not helping our world, So please stop because you will only make it worse.

Have you seen those photos of poor animals that float around the ocean with plastic in their mouths,

How sad is that and it’s all because of us!

The world is currently using 300 million tons of plastic each year, and that usually ends up in the ocean.

About one trillion single use plastic bags are used across the globe that’s nearly 2 million every minute!

I think we should stop using plastic bags because they are so light weight the wind could pick it up and could travel long distances to pollute the nature.

Some areas where plastic bags have polluted the earth have caused great problems. Just look around and you will see them everywhere.

Plastic bags are the most common litter around that pollutes our planet.

We can make a change in the world, stop using single use plastic bags and switch to reusable shopping bags.

Reusable shopping bags are made from renewable materials and they are cheap as well. But if you do end up taking home some plastic bag’s then you can reuse them too.

When I grow up I hope to make a change in the world.

I think it’s unfair that animals aren't living a happy life in the ocean and here in the outside world people don’t obey mother nature.

She has given us this world to live in and we are ruining it. So please tell your friends, families and cousins to help to, A little change can make a big difference.

What could you do to help the environment?

How can we save the environment?

On Tuesday the 7 of May Erika Lingard came in to talk to us about saving the environment because for our PBL this term we are looking to save the environment. Erika Lingard has her own website where she sells things that are reusable. She showed us a couple of things that are on her website like - Reusable copper Coffee cups, Stainless steel spork ( Spoon and a Fork put together ), Some cotton bags where you can  put your fruit in and you can also reuse them as well, Stainless steel chopsticks, Stainless steel straw's, Stainless steel pegs that when you forget to bring in your washing they don't go rusty and leave marks on your shirts. She talked to us about what happens when Rubbish goes to landfill. They have big concrete boxes that they put the rubbish in and when it rains it seeps through and goes into a pipe that turns it into toxic liquid, and some of the rubbish get's dumped in other countries like Bangladeshi. So help us make a difference in the world we need to make a better place!

What would you do to do help save the Environment?

The Playhouse Theater come to school!!

Have you ever read the book The Tortoise and and the Hare? Well on the 2nd of May 2019, The Playhouse Theatre came to our school and preformed the Tortoise and the Hare. They did really well.  It was about a Gingerbread man and a Hare who were racing.  The Gingerbread man lost and  the Hare  made fun of the Gingerbread man. then the Gingerbread man asked for someone to race the Hare so he wouldn't be a laughing stock, Then Tortoise came along and offered to race but the Gingerbread man said that she was to slow so he hired Humty Dumty  who had a 12 pack and he helped the Tortoise go faster to win the race. I won't tell you anymore of the race because I don't want to spoil it just in case you haven't head of it. Here are some Pictures for you. Have you ever had the Playhouse Theatre?

All Kind's of Lollie's

PBL - Term 1

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was:
How can we build community through our actions?

First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build
a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we
had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and
kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free
and would make others happy.

Reflection:
For our final product our group made kindness quote cards and then we had small bags that had 4 lollies in it and stuck it on the back of the cards. Then we would ask the teachers who has been showing kindness in the hubs and the people who were showing kindness we gave them the lollies bags.

How did our action build a sense of community in the school?
We build a sense of community by giving them the lollies bags and making a smile appear on the faces.

I contributed by sharing my thoughts and ideas and making them better and giving out the cards and
lollies bags.

I think the PBL might impact on others by showing kindness and that's it's a simple thing to do. and you
can do it as well.

What I learned about working with others was that teamwork makes the dream work and that even if
you are an independent person you get used to working with others and it can be fun.

What have you done to show kindness to the world?

The Successful Market day

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths
Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance MnMs for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because … we had more supplies and it was book character day so we got to have fun while making it.

            Here is my Science Template
In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made this…  We made Crystal Sets where you can make and grow your own Crystals. We think that selling crystals will have no Science behind it so we we decided to let you make them and watch them grow.

This is the photo of our stall -

Reflection

My highlight from this PBL was… When a lot of people came to our stall and that we sold out in the first 20 minutes. We also had a lot of fun making the posters and painting containers.

Next time I would… make some more Sets and buy the containers because they sold out fast because the people wanted to buy them.

Have you ever done a Market day at your school ?

Our PBL

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is…. Where we are from, traditions: food, clothing, dancing celebration, and holidays: Christmas Halloween and Easter.
Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.
In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read… Maui and the Sun and Battle of the Mountains.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Photo:

Reflection:
For our production I contributed by… playing the ukulele and xylophone it was really fun because it was my first time learning how to play the xylophone.

I think the show might impact on others by… How we can show people stories in our own way like doing plays or dancing.

What I learned about working with others was… if we keep the beat then the music will come together and sound amazing.

Reading Evidence

Hi, everyone
In my Reading Workshops I have been learning to ask good quality questions. I have created a quiz using questions and a wordfind to use with the journal story called my Mother and Stan  that we have been reading

My Mother and Stan

  1. Why was Rupert at home not at school ?
  2. Why did Stan need to come over ?

  3. What was Stan’s motorcycle’s color ?
  4. What is mum’s job ?
  5. What was Stans jacket wrinkled like ?

I hope you enjoyed this post. Have you done the word search.
