Why do Donuts have holes in them?

For writing this week we were doing Explanation texts. An explanation text is tells people how something works or how it happen's. My Explanation text was Why do donuts have holes in them. Here is a look of it! 

Explanation Text: Why do Donuts have holes?

The reason why we should thank Captain Hanson Gregory an American who came from the 19th century for making the hole in donuts! It all started when he didn’t fancy his mother's half baked fritters, his mother Mrs Gregory loved to bake them but Sir Hanson often noticed that the insides weren’t cooked properly so one day in 1947 he had an idea to pierce the donuts. He grabbed a pepper tin and made a hole in the middle. When the donut was cooking it suddenly came in contact with a larger part of the dough so that it would cook all around. The Final result were freshly baked donuts with a hole in them!

Fun at the Hagley Netball courts!

For the winter season we have been doing Winter Sport Which is where Primary schools from all across Christchurch come and Play sports like Soccer, Hockey, Netball and Rugby. I played Netball and over the season my team won the first four games and lost about five. I have had so much fun with my team playing netball and even if we lose we were still good sports. In my team I had Caoimhe, Lara, Santara, Ariella, Elsha, Cory, Megan and last but not least me, Our Team was called the Killer Bees there were also other St Francis Netball groups like the Tarantulas which is the A team the C team which I was in last year is called the Hornets. I really like how the teachers at this school let us go to Thursday sports and it's good for your fitness levels because they have increased mine. I would also like to thank my coach/teacher Miss Parker for coaching us.

House of Bricks comes to school!!

On the 5 of August the House of Bricks came to school The lady who took us was called Rachel and she was a really nice lady. We had three classrooms filled with lego and we had to build a bridge that would hold some books and there was the tallest tower and then there was car racing it was all so fun and we had to work in teams! Team work Makes the Dream Work!

Fantastic Math Boards

Hi Guys and welcome back to my Blog. For the past weeks we have been doing Maths Boards. Maths Boards are a board that you can show different strategies to solve the problem. Maths Boards are also really fun if you don't like doing Maths because you can add pictures and make the questions fun!

Surveillance planes!!

SURVEILLANCE PLANES!!

For PBL this term we are looking at Innovation, We are going to be taking things apart and making usable objects out of them. For a starter we made Surveillance Planes out of paper, tape, blue tac, and drinking straws in groups, My group was Me Eilish and Beth we had 5 minutes to make a plan and 15 minutes to create the plane. We decided to make a base out of the drinking straws and then make the wings out of paper and tape, After a while the plane started looking really cool so Beth went to go and test fly it but sadly it didn't go very far. So while Beth left to go to Cycle Safety me and Eilish made a tip out of blue tac to put it on the front so that it would fly better, We then went to go and test fly it again and it flew much much better then last time and we were very happy. When it came to the actual flying thing our plane flew our total was 4 we were third tied with another team.  Even though we didn't come first we had a lot of fun making it!!
